filigree’s role
Filigree has been appointed by Canvey Island Town Council to provide specialist engagement consultancy services to rebuild trust between the local authority and the community, facilitate inclusive, strategic engagement around the future of Canvey Lake, and to guide placemaking projects to promote community ownership and involvement.
Our approach
Canvey Lake, a nature reserve at the heart of this Essex neighbourhood has become a contentious focus point with misunderstanding of the needs and priorities for the lake leading to a mistrust of the local authority.
We are supporting officers and members to create a strategic plan to involve the local people in establishing a shared vision for the lake. As well as identifying priority projects and helping to allocate available funding.
So far, we’ve held a workshop to agree an action plan for engagement and continue to provide tools and resources to enable the team to deliver workshops, briefing meetings, co-production sessions and pop-up engagement throughout the summer.
An evaluation framework has been established to enable us to determine whether our reach is effective and our methodologies and messaging resonate with the local community.
Finding creative ways to involve the local community in the conservation of the lake will help people to feel a sense of ownership and influence over its future. We’re canvassing views on interest in participating through conservation sessions, school activities, nature and wildlife monitoring and new interpretation boards around the lake and throughout the picnic areas.
